Emma Watson – a true feminist?

“If not me, who? If not now, when?”

Emma Watson just made a compelling speech about equal rights, as an ambassador for the HeForShe campaign at the UN. She speaks about the word feminism, and how equal rights is NOT just for women (hence the word equal), but that it is just as much a man’s issue. She points out the severity of what we ask of men, as well as women, and the consequences of all of our actions.

This was inspiring to me, and I hope it is to you too! It is not about the word “feminism”, which for many derive negative connotations. No, it is about joining forces, speaking your mind and erasing the belief that you are your gender. You are who you are, not your body, and you decide what to do with what you have been given!

Please, take the time to listen, and allow Emma to to touch you, the way she did me.
Also, please leave a comment about how it made you feel. I think you will find it liberating.

I was thrilled to hear it! Being a man, I do read a lot of things from some of the bloggers that I follow that truly are nothing more than man-hating, despite their assurances that the words aren’t directed at me. It becomes frustrating, as I am not an abuser, the cause of all the world’s ills, or a threat to women’s rights at all. It’s not easy to be a man, and it isn’t easy being a woman – simple as that. We all share the same ground, and should respect each other equally. Peace . .
