Remember to smile.
That lady in the convenience store. She’s just another one of those people without an education. That lady has a master degree in pediatrics, but depression and anxiety had her unable to continue working with children. She lost her daughter to drugs and her son is now traveling that same path. Even so, she manages to smile at her customers every day all day!
Remember to smile back!
Remember to speak.
There’s always so much noise from those neighbors. Their children are loud and they shout and argue all the time. You wish they would just shut up or move. That family struggles. The oldest has just been diagnosed with ADHD and the youngest has asthma. The middle child is simply sick of it all and refuses to listen to anything her mother says, while the father is an abusive drunk.
Remember to speak!
Remember to give back.
There is that teacher. The one who you’re wondering about. She seems stressed, does she have what it takes to watch your children every day? That teacher goes home worried about YOUR children, every day. She stresses about that child who doesn’t show up on time, the child who doesn’t speak, the one who doesn’t eat and all the rest of them because she wants to do the best job she possibly can for YOUR children. It is why she became a teacher.
Remember to give back!
Remember to lend an ear.
You know her. That girl who always listens to your troubles. She seems to have it all together and she gives you the best advice. If you had allowed her to lean on you the way you lean on her you would know that her father is dying from cancer and her bank account is empty. She doesn’t even have the money to go visit him in the hospital.
Remember to lend an ear!
Remember to ask.
That boy at those parties. You know him, the loud one, the one who no one really cares to be friends with. The one who is obnoxious and annoying. That boy is consistently abused at home, but no one knows. No one knows he plans to end his life. He is crying for help the best way he knows how.
Remember to ask!
Everyone has a life, a history and a story to tell. Open your eyes and remember that you are people too.
